FTC Reopens Fortnite Refund Claims and How to Apply

If you missed your chance to claim a Fortnite refund earlier this year, you’re in luck — the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has reopened the application window for players to request a refund from Epic Games. This extension gives eligible users a second opportunity to receive compensation from the massive $245 million settlement related to unwanted in-game purchases. But don’t delay — the new deadline is July 9, 2025.
Why Is There a Fortnite Settlement? Back in 2022, Epic Games agreed to a $520 million settlement with the FTC, addressing both privacy violations and deceptive in-game purchase mechanics. The $245 million portion of that amount was allocated for refunds to players who were charged for items they didn’t intend to buy — or who were affected by account lockouts or unauthorized charges.
The FTC had initially closed applications in February 2025 after distributing the first batch of refunds, totaling over 629,000 payments. Now, with nearly one million more payments processed this past week, the agency has reopened the process to ensure no eligible player is left out.
Who Can Claim a Refund? The FTC has outlined specific eligibility criteria for this settlement:
You were charged V-Bucks for in-game items you didn’t intend to purchase (January 2017 – September 2022).
Your child made unauthorized purchases using your credit card (January 2017 – November 2018).
Your account was locked after disputing unauthorized charges (January 2017 – September 2022).
Keep in mind, you must be a U.S. resident and at least 18 years old to file a claim. If you're under 18, a parent or guardian must submit the application on your behalf.

What Happens After You Apply? Once you’ve submitted your claim, the FTC will review and validate all applications. The agency expects to send out additional waves of payments in 2026, ensuring that all eligible players receive their share of the settlement.
